Clive Farrelly joins Shirley Rd Chiropractic

Clive Farrelly, a keen surfer who lives in the Shire, completed his degree in Masters of Chiropractic at Macquarie University in 2012. While studying at university, he was very interested in the rehabilitation side of the patient and has been greatly influenced by Professor Pavel Kolar and his work on Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS for short). The goal is to rehabilitate any postural disturbances that may have arisen from trauma, bad habits, or genetic predispositions as soon as possible; allowing for muscular synergies in the body to stabilise and function in their normal way.

Clive is also a dedicated Iyengar yoga teacher and practitioner which has been his main passion for the last 19 years. He travels to India to study with the Iyengar family at their institute in Pune and feels privileged to be taught by the late BKS Iyengar; who is one of the worlds most respected and leading exponents on yoga therapy today. Iyengar yoga teaches unique postures (asanas known in Sanskrit), which helps the student to understand and improve on their individual muscle imbalances, developing coordination through static, moving and balancing postures; increasing sensorimotor awareness. Motor programs are established as a result, with both local and global stabilising systems trained; bringing stability to the student in both the upright posture and gait. Breathing techniques known as Pranayama is also taught, and this helps increase the elasticity of the lungs through regulated inhalation and exhalation breaths, resulting in optimal and efficient ventilation. Clive was invited to teach Iyengar yoga in the Czech Republic to the physiotherapists in Motol (Prague city hospital), and has extended Mr Iyengar’s teachings also into Slovenia and Portugal. Clive has decided to further his studies in acupuncture, as the ancient arts have influenced the way he approaches his patients and students in a more integrated and subtle manner. His love for children guided him to study retained neonatal reflexes to help those with learning disorders and behavioural problems; he also teaches children’s yoga. Other treatment modalities include Switched on Kids, Applied Kinesiology, Neuro-Emotional Technique, Sacro-Occipital Technique, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation and Total Body Modification. Clive is very approachable and believes that the wholistic approach is a very noble path to walk when it comes to healing the body, mind and spirit. Clive is available at the Crows Nest office on Monday morning and Wednesday morning and afternoon.
